The mission of the Chesapeake Umpire Association is to promote integrity, fairness, and professionalism in officiating. We are dedicated to supporting and developing highly skilled umpires through comprehensive training, mentorship, and consistent evaluation. Our goal is to ensure the highest standards of conduct and performance on the field, while fostering respect for the game, its players, coaches, and fans.

What We do
We offer umpires for all ages and skill levels. The Chesapeake Umpire Association (CUA) is made up of volunteer Umpires committed to excellence and dedicated to officiating any level of play for baseball and softball games across the State of Maryland and beyond.
What does being an umpire mean?
Being an umpire is much more than understanding pitching, batting, catching, and running the bases, it is being responsible for making critical calls, on balls and strikes, and deciding the status of players on the bases. Umpires use voice and hand signals to communicate their decisions. Enforcing rules, and resolving disputes in the sport of baseball and softball comes from being a well-trained umpire, who plays multiple roles while navigating the dynamics of the game.
An effective umpire requires staying updated on changing rules and regulations to ensure they are applied correctly during games.
Our Chesapeake Umpire Association trains and mentors men and women, of any age, who love the sport of baseball and softball.
